We are looking for an experienced Conceptual Design Engineer specialised in vehicle interior and exterior engineering design -trim- to be assigned in our R&D Conceptual Design team.
This role shapes the passenger and driver experience of vehicles and has a direct impact on the aesthetic appearance, comfort and brand image of vehicles.
What is the job waiting for you?
· To make conceptual interior - exterior trim designs of new vehicle models and to monitor the correct implementation of these designs.
· To make economic and engineering feasibility of new designs.
· Development of Interior and Exterior Trim Concepts:
o Creating aesthetic and functional trim concepts suitable for the interior and exterior of the vehicles.
o Making material and colour selections in accordance with the brand's design language and target audience.
· Material Selection and Optimisation:
o Selecting materials with durable, lightweight and aesthetic properties for interior and exterior trim parts (leather, fabric, plastic, wood, etc.).
o Evaluate the properties of materials such as fire safety, sound insulation and hygiene.
· Aerodynamic Design:
o Making aerodynamic optimisations to reduce the vehicle's air resistance and reduce fuel consumption.
o Evaluating aerodynamic performance through methods such as wind tunnel tests or CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analyses.
· Ergonomics and Comfort:
o To ensure that parts such as seat, buttons, control panel, maintenance covers and all assembly and disassembly processes are ergonomic and convenient.
o To evaluate factors such as interior lighting, ventilation, noise, vibration, ease of landing and alighting in order to increase passenger and driver comfort.
· Determination of Production Processes:
o Determine the most suitable production methods (injection moulding, vacuum forming, SMC, RTM, hand lay-up, etc.) for the production of trim parts.
· Technical Drawing and Documentation:
o Creating a 3D model of the trim parts and preparing detailed technical drawings.
o Creating technical documentation covering all data and results obtained during the design process.
o Defining the trim parts to be used as shelf products in accordance with engineering standards, customer requests and project requirements.
· Collaboration with Teams:
o Working in close co-operation with other engineering disciplines, design, production and quality control teams, product management and marketing departments to ensure holistic design of vehicles.
· Compliance with Standards:
o To create designs that comply with national and international safety standards, flammability regulations and other legal requirements.
· Cost Optimisation:
o To offer cost-effective solutions by evaluating different materials and production methods to reduce the cost of trim parts.
· Innovation:
o Integrating new materials, production techniques and design trends into trim designs by following the developments in the industry.
Responsibilities:
· Project Schedule: To complete the tasks in accordance with the determined project schedule by working on the calendar and effort in accordance with the processes related to the subject that will be worked on.
· Quality: To ensure that the designs comply with quality standards.
· Problem Solving: Finding solutions to technical problems that arise during the design process.
· Reporting: Regular reporting to management on design processes and results achieved.
· Documentation: Identify and document work outputs, lessons learnt and revisions to work processes.
What we are looking for?
Experience: At least 5 years of experience in the automotive industry (experience in interior and exterior engineering design -trim-)
Education: Graduated from Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or a related department
Areas of Expertise:
· Vehicle interior design (interior trim design)
· Vehicle exterior design (exterior trim design)
· Ergonomics and regulations
· Materials science (especially automotive interior trim materials)
· Production processes and methods (moulding, laying, assembly, etc.)
· Practice and theory of mathematical surfacing
Computer Skills: Advanced command of CATIA software, command of other CAD/CAM software (NX, SolidWorks, etc.) will be an advantage.
